February 3, 2010–Rapidan Chapter Meeting Minutes

The membership meeting was called to order by Pres. Rob Paul. He thanked everyone for coming tonight, and then led introductions around the room. There were 26 people present, 4 of whom were new and interested in fishing. Three new email addresses were added to chapter distribution list.

  • Doug Farmer gave the Treasurer’s Report, with a balance of $10,384. The VCTU mailer Montana & rod raffle ticket sales for fishing show were going well this year, especially the rod raffle tickets (3 premium rod prizes). He recommended that a self-addressed envelop be required by ticket requesters for next year, as some requests were illegible. Fred will implement next year.
  • Mike McCaffery gave update to Tri-state Youth TU Camp schedule ( now 6/27-7/2; one week later), due to school year closing a week later this year in some VA counties. More daily volunteers are needed.
  • Larry Willoughby was elected as Rapidan TU “Member of Year”. He was not present to receive award, and it was planned to give it to him at fishing show on Feb 7.
  • Judd Walls received a ~$400 flyrod reel/line combo donation from LLBean/Tyson’s as an additional raffle item for Chapter’s Fishing Show. Greg Safford went to Orvis/Tyson’s Thursday & obtained the needed fly containers. We have spare chapter flies & wanted something better to put them in for membership table use at the fishing show. Thanks Judd & Greg!
  • Fred Kallmeyer-The fishing show preps (vendors, tables, food, volunteer signup, advertising & raffle sales) are going well, and now am hoping for good weather.
  • Kevin Daniels/Editor-Hatches Newsletter–Deadline is Feb 14 for input. Need show photo’s.
  • Chuck Hoysa/Trout in Classroom-no new info.
  • Conservation–Three streams being looked at for chapter support (Spout Run, Chapel Run & Clay)-Will look into DGIF study results & make recommendation.
  • Rappahanock County Flow Group/Conservation Projects- Four streams (NF Thorton, Hazel, Hughes & one other)
  • Doug Farmer volunteered to be lead, and work with Rob Speight in quantifying conservation efforts relevant to Rapidan TU chapter and make recommendations. Fred Fox plans to get briefing from Rapp Flow group & coordinate with Doug. The point was also made that the closer a conservation stream project is to the chapter membership geography, the more activity the chapter generates.
  • Bylaws review/update-Action/Rob Paul & Board
  • Rob Paul–Looking for photos for collage display at future chapter events for recruiting new members.
  • Fred Kallmeyer/Programs–Introduced Chris Murphy-Coordinator for tonight’s fly tying program. Chris introduced William Heresniak/Eastern Trophies FF & Rich Farino/Urban Angler.  All three tied two of their favorite fish catching flies for the members. Some flies were for trout, and others were for trout & bass. Thanks Chris, William & Rich!

The meeting was adjourned at 9:15pm.
