Keep us informed

As the Chapter takes leave of formal meetings during the summer, it will likely be a light news time on the web site.  However, please keep our members updated on your fishing adventures whenever you can, and send pictures as well.   We will still have periodically scheduled “Fish with a Friend” outings, so check the calendar for the FWF days and join us for a summer venture.  You can send your stories and photos, reach any of the Chapter’s leadership, or contact the web site administrator, via the Contact Us link on the site.  Have a great summer, and we hope to see you on a stream somewhere.

Thanks bunches to Bill Hobson & Danny Delongis for their support of our Special Love Camp

Just wanted to recognize Bill and Danny for their support of our Special Love Camp last weekend. I know we had our own Clean up day and picnic, but Bill shared that he, Danny and the volunteer from Northern Shen weren’t enough, they were very challenged in keeping up with the number of folks at the camp…If you can donate some of your time for the next event, please let us know via our web site…Thanks again Bill & Danny!!

Cancelled***July 10, 2010 Fish With a Friend

I just got off the phone with Rob Paul, who had just spoken with Mike McCaffery, reporting on the Rapidan.  The water levels in the Rapidan are lower than he has ever seen them and water temperatures were approaching 70 degrees.  According to Rob, Mike also reported dead fish floating in some of the pools, snakes in the pools going after the trapped fish, and the fish in the pools rightfully stressed.

This weather has been the most severe I’ve seen this early in my 10 years here, and while things are going to cool off some, it has imposed a serious toll on the fish.  As a result, we are going to cancel the Fish with a Friend outing for July 10.  Sorry for the notice.

Greg Safford and I fished  Shaver’s Fork south of Elkins about 6 weeks ago.  The water temperature was 53 degrees.  We went back 3 weeks ago and fished Shaver’s Fork again and the canyon section of Blackwater Falls.  The water temperature on both rivers was 77 degrees.  Tailwaters may be the only solid trout fishing in the area for quite some time.

Have a great weekend and stay out of the heat if you can.  Cross your fingers for much cooler temperatures and long durations of steady rain.  We need both desperately.

Thanks Chris “Murph” Murphy for sponsoring the Clean-up & picnic last weekend!!

Hey Chris – a big thanks Man for heading up/leading the clean-up day and picnic – I got raving reviews from members who attended…what organization – -glad to hear we had fun – I’m looking for pictures…
